The Yarmouth Port Library Presents PT Boats, JFK, and the PT-109 With Elizabeth York Friday, October 3rd, 1:00 PM PT-109 was an 80' Elco PT boat (patrol torpedo boat) last commanded by Lieutenant (junior grade) John F. Kennedy, future United States president, in the Solomon Islands campaign of the Pacific Theater during World War II. Kennedy’s actions in saving his surviving crew after PT-109 was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer earned him several commendations and made him a war hero. Join us as Cahoon Museum Development Manager, Elizabeth York, discusses patrol torpedo boats, PT 109, and that fateful evening in August of 1943. Elizabeth York is an Ithaca College graduate with a Master’s in Collections Management from John F. Kennedy University. She formerly served as Director of Collections at Battleship Cove in Fall River, as the Executive Director of the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, and currently serves as the Development Manager at the Cahoon Museum of American Art.
